Title: “Letters from the Border”

It was the monsoon of 2022 when Arjun was deployed to the northern frontiers of India, a remote post nestled between snow-clad peaks and silence. He was a dedicated army officer — disciplined, brave, and burdened by the distance he had to maintain from the world he once knew.

Back in Delhi, Ayan was finishing his final year of architecture school. He was bright, creative, and had a habit of sketching emotions he couldn’t express. His apartment was filled with art — one canvas, however, remained hidden behind his cupboard: a portrait of Arjun in uniform, drawn from memory.

They had met a year ago at a mutual friend’s Diwali party. Arjun, shy and reserved, had stood in a corner while Ayan, with his usual charm, had made everyone laugh. But there was something magnetic in the way Arjun’s eyes watched quietly — something real. They spoke for hours that night, and when Arjun left, he pressed a note into Ayan’s hand: "I don’t talk much. But with you, I want to learn."

Over the next few months, love bloomed — in stolen weekends, whispered phone calls, and lingering touches. But when Arjun received his posting orders, he grew distant. “This life… it’s not easy. I don’t want to hold you back,” he had said.

But Ayan, with tears in his eyes, replied, “Love isn’t supposed to be easy. It’s supposed to be worth it.”

For six months, they exchanged letters. No phone network reached the border, so every week Ayan would write long, heartfelt letters, and Arjun would write back whenever he could. Ayan would include his sketches — mountains, birds, sunsets — little windows to his world.

Then, one day, the letters stopped. No reply for weeks. Ayan couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep. The silence was unbearable.

One evening, as rain poured down over Delhi, Ayan sat by the window, clutching Arjun’s last letter when the doorbell rang. He opened the door — and there he stood. Soaked, in uniform, eyes tired but shining.

Ayan was frozen. “You’re… you’re back?”

“I got injured. Nothing serious. But I realized something,” Arjun said, stepping closer. “I’m done hiding. I want to come home to you — always.”

Without another word, they embraced — the world outside blurry and grey, but their hearts finally whole.

From that day on, they built a new life — quietly, courageously, together. Love, after all, doesn’t need permission. Just two hearts brave enough to hold on.
