More Than Just Friends

Jay and Arman had been best friends since their first year of college. They met during orientation, both lost in a sea of unfamiliar faces and anxious energy. Jay was the quiet artist who loved sketching people from a distance; Arman was the loud, charismatic soul who could make anyone laugh. They were opposites, but somehow, they fit.

Over the years, they were inseparable. Movie nights, spontaneous road trips, midnight talks about life and fear and dreams. Everyone thought they were a couple, but they always laughed it off.

Jay never said it out loud, but every time Arman smiled at him, his heart raced. Every time Arman dated someone new, a small part of him broke. But Jay kept quiet, afraid of losing the most important person in his life.

Arman, on the other hand, had always been confused. He liked girls—he thought. But nothing ever felt right. Except Jay. Being with Jay felt like home. He just didn’t know what to do with that feeling—until one rainy evening changed everything.

They were stuck in Jay’s apartment, the city soaked and silent outside. Jay was sketching, Arman lying next to him on the couch. The silence felt different—tense, thick with something unsaid.

Arman finally spoke. “Jay… have you ever thought about us?”

Jay froze. “What do you mean?”

“I mean… more than friends.”

Jay looked up slowly, his voice barely a whisper. “All the time.”

Arman reached out, gently touching Jay’s hand. “Me too. I was just scared.”

Jay smiled, his eyes misty. “Me too.”
